Chak overrun the asura city of Rata Novus

Rata Novus was a hidden asura city sunk deep in the Tangled Depths of the Heart of Maguuma, its scholars bent on a single purpose: learning how to destroy the Elder Dragons, with Primordus their chief study. The city drew its power from tapped ley-line energy — energy that also lured the insectile chak in ever greater numbers.

In 1173 AE the chak overran Rata Novus. Some ninety-eight percent of its people were killed, and the handful of survivors fled and abandoned the city, leaving its automated defenses to guard empty halls. More than a century and a half later, its ruins and its dragon research would be rediscovered during the Heart of Thorns campaign.
