Lord Odran opens the first portals to the Mists

In 851 AE Lord Odran, an arcanist obsessed with the spaces between worlds, used a spell of his own making and the sacrifice of many souls to open a portal into the Mists, becoming the first recorded living mortal to enter the Rift. He exploited it to scatter portals across many worlds, hiding them in perilous places. When spirits of the Rift finally killed him on one of his journeys, his protective enchantments failed and the locations of his portals were laid bare — opening the Mists to those who came after.
