Ceara emerges from the machine as Scarlet Briar
The brilliant, empathy-starved sylvari Ceara enters Headmaster Omadd's experimental isolation module to probe the Eternal Alchemy; she emerges shattered by what she sees, takes the name Scarlet Briar, and kills Omadd.
Awakened in 1304 AE as a Secondborn who rejected the guidance of the Pale Tree, Ceara spent years studying smithing, firearms, explosives, and the three colleges of Rata Sum, growing obsessed with the Eternal Alchemy — the asuran theory of all things working as one great machine.
In late 1321 AE, Headmaster Omadd offered her a chance to glimpse that truth directly through his isolation module, later called Omadd's Machine. Inside, Ceara confronted profound and terrible knowledge about reality and the nature of the sylvari. The revelation broke and remade her: resolving to turn the world's hidden forces against one another, she emerged as Scarlet Briar and murdered Omadd — the genesis of the menace whose schemes would erupt in the years after Zhaitan's fall.
