Central Tyria
The Elder Dragons return to slumber
Around 10,000 BE the last rising of the Elder Dragons ends and they sink back into dormancy; the ancient Great Giants vanish from the northern continent, and the surviving races begin to rebuild.
The Great Giants — the gigantic ancient races scholars call giganticus lupicus — disappeared from the Tyrian continent in about 10,000 BE, a vanishing that coincides with the last rise of the Elder Dragons. Durmand Priory scholars believe the dragons themselves were responsible for the giants’ extinction, devouring the world’s magic and life before sinking back into their long sleep.
In jotun legend, as told by Thrulnn the Lost, this is the world that the Age of Giants was built upon: once the dragons went to sleep and the chaos of wild magic was tamed, the surviving races rebuilt. The jotun ancestors formed kingdoms, and giants such as the jotun and the norn grew powerful — the dawn of an age when giants would rule Tyria.
