Cobiah Marriner refounds Lion's Arch on the ruins of the old city

1230 AE1,740 CC1,430 DRFirm date

A decade after the Great Tsunami drowned it, corsairs and refugees settle the drying ruins of Lion's Arch, and Cobiah Marriner begins rebuilding it into the free port that becomes Tyria's great crossroads.

The Rising of Orr's Great Tsunami had flooded Lion's Arch in 1219 AE. By 1230 AE the waters had receded enough for corsairs, pirates, and the displaced to occupy the ruins, and the former sailor Cobiah Marriner led the effort to rebuild. The new Lion's Arch rose as an independent, council-governed free city open to every race — the cosmopolitan hub that would later host the Captain's Council, weather Scarlet Briar's assault, and rebuild yet again.
