Six years after defeating Palawa Joko at Jahai, Turai Ossa lays down his command and leads his followers north into the Crystal Desert, seeking the Ascension and eternal life in the land where the gods once walked.

Having beaten Joko at the Battle of Jahai in 862 AE and bound the lich beneath the sands, Turai Ossa turned from war to faith. In 868 AE (1068 DR) he stepped down as warmarshal — passing the title to his son Kunai — and set out on a great pilgrimage, marching his people north into the Crystal Desert, where the gods were said to have walked among mortals, hoping to Ascend and win everlasting life.

The desert gave him only ruin. His followers were lost to battles with the Forgotten, to infighting among the pilgrims, and to the wastes' own hazards, while Turai found not immortality but an eternal living death. His ghost and those of his pilgrims still wander the Crystal Desert — a warning left for the heroes who would one day retrace his path to Ascension.
