The gods favor, then fear, the giants
The Six Gods once favored the giants, granting the jotun and norn magic and knowledge of mechanical and magical things — but as the giants’ power grew to rival their own, the gods began to fear that the giants would use magic against them.
In Thrulnn the Lost’s telling, the gods once favored the giants, the jotun: they gave them magic and blessed them with knowledge of mechanical and magical things. So great did the jotun and norn become that the other races looked up to them, and the giants were "gaining on the gods" themselves.
That ascent bred dread among the Six. They threatened to take magic from the giants, afraid the giants would one day turn that power against them. The jotun kings met this threat with great confusion — and in their confusion they began to fight among themselves, the first cracks in the giants’ supremacy.
