The Aetherblades resurface in Central Tyria

The Aetherblades — the airship-flying sky pirates who first menaced Tyria during Scarlet Briar's uprising — resurface in Central Tyria in 1335 AE, again under Captain Mai Trin. Their return is no simple raid: Mai Trin's first mate Ankka, a defector from the Inquest, abducts the asura engineer Gorrik, and the pursuit leads the Commander and Aurene through the Mists.

When an Aetherblade weapon strikes Aurene, the Commander and dragon crash-land on the shores of long-isolated Cantha, sparking an international incident. That collision is the thread that pulls the Commander into the Empire of the Dragon and the events of Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons — with Mai Trin herself turning from foe to uneasy ally.
