The Realm of Torment · The Mouth of Torment, Crystal Sea

Abaddon falls at the Mouth of Torment

The Five Gods smite Abaddon down at the place now called the Mouth of Torment and seal him and his Margonites in the Realm of Torment; the blow boils away the Crystal Sea, creating the Crystal Desert and the Desolation.

Unable to stand against the combined might of all five of his brethren, Abaddon was struck down at the place thereafter known as the Mouth of Torment. Because his power could not be destroyed, the gods cast him and his Margonite followers out of Tyria and into the Realm of Torment, a prison within the Mists; as the rebel god fell he dragged the defiled Temple of the Six Gods down with him. Balthazar himself forged the chains that bound him, and his power was sealed behind great gates with Forgotten wardens set to watch over the rift.

The gods' victory ravaged the land. The blow that felled Abaddon boiled away the waters of the Crystal Sea, leaving behind the Crystal Desert, while the ground where he was cast down was shattered and poisoned into the sulfurous Desolation — the part of Tyria nearest the Realm of Torment.
